There's this Japanese drama i watched before, but never finished, until now.. a true story about 15-year old Aya Kito (or in the drama Aya Ikeuchi) based on her diary, who had an incurable degenerative disease.. about her struggles & how she remained positive about it and lived her life til the end.
A portion of the drama was about the love she had with a classmate of hers, Haruto Asou. Whether this happened in real life, i'm not too sure but it was in the drama. Originally, she had a crush on her senior, but the guy bailed out on her when he found out that she was sick. Haturo, on the other hand, initially a very aloof guy & angry at the world (due to his older brother's death) etc, was able to relate to Aya's pain in facing death.
In the drama, what stood out to me was how typically Asian on how Haruto handled his feelings for Aya.. hehe, at least that's what i think.. i mean all he did was watch her silently from afar. He would just be beside her, listening to her. He would accompany her when she couldnt join the sports club. Treat her like normal, when others shun her & complained that she was a burden to them. He lets her cry & vent her frustration about her disease. He did his own research into the desease, plus going into medical school for her. He also had to endure his father's objection against his relationship with Aya.
There was no big show of affection like holding hands, or going out on dates, or official title of girlfriend/boyfriend. There's no showers of gifts except that one time when he bought her a dolphin phone tag (same as his) to remember their date at the aquarium. Of course, there's also that beautiful plant he brought for her when she moved to the hospital.
But it's the little things that he does that shows how much he loved her. Memang mamat tuh sayang giler la, even if she's in a wheelchair & cant barely talk.
The closest thing to "i love you" that Asou-kun had ever told Aya-chan...awww, sweet sangat..:
Is it okay if i say what i'm feeling right now?
I dont know what's gonna happen in the future.
But right now, what i'm feeling is 100% not a lie.
I can say that with confidence.
For me, as long as it's you that saying it, it doesnt matter how slowly you say it, i'll still listen.
If you cant talk over the phone, then i'll come to see you, just like this.
I'm not a dolphin. You, you're also not a dolphin.
If you want to walk, no matter how slow it'll be, i will walk with you.
Right now, i might not be that reliable.
One day, maybe i'll be able to help.
Things cant be the same as they were before, but there's this kind of feeling that's linking us together.
I dont think that we're living in different worlds.
I.. with regards to you...
I like you.
Maybe.
I like you, maybe. (smilling)
Probably.

Will i ever find a love like that, if not as great as the story, but at least a fraction of it?
